Elsibe Loubser McGuffog, known in her capacity as poet-mentor the Poetry Whisperer, will be hosting a workshop at Iziko Slave Lodge this Saturday, 2 May 2026.

The event is part of the Suidoosterfees, and is organised in collaboration with Iziko and the South African Council of English Education (SACEE).

The workshop follows hot on the heels of a recent publication by Sandra Cee and Elsibe, titled Waar die wortels loop, a book that is aimed at reading and writing poetry, bolstered by gorgeous illustrations.

Saturday's workshop is aimed at getting the public to write, in their mother tongue. The outcome will determine whether another anthology can be published, as was done in 2025.

Waar die wortels loop is a separate collaboration between Sandra Cee and Elsibe, aimed at high school learners, especially, but not exclusively, those that attend farm schools. As a community-driven concept, Waar die wortels loop aims to bring private, public and civil society together to expose more people to the joy of poetry and writing in general.

It is a book that straddles various traditional genres – it’s a picture book, poetry anthology, and how-to guide.

The public is encouraged to purchase the book or make donations to help the project grow.
