Marsha Bothma was ’n paar jaar gelede ’n finals van die Crescendo-projek. Sy praat met Naomi Meyer oor haar herinneringe daaraan en ook wat die projek vir haar loopbaan beteken het.
Jy was ’n paar jaar gelede ’n finalis in die Crescendo-projek. Wat onthou jy daarvan?

I remember not knowing what I was in for. I was so scared because Afrikaans was my second language and everyone around me spoke it, as well as the project being Afrikaans focused, but I still wanted to try this new challenge for myself. I remember reflecting back at the end of the week that I did not regret my decision to be a part of this programme.

I was so scared because Afrikaans was my second language and everyone around me spoke it, as well as the project being Afrikaans focused, but I still wanted to try this new challenge for myself. I remember reflecting back at the end of the week that I did not regret my decision to be a part of this programme. I learned so much about myself, my art and how to network with others. I also learned how important I am as an artist within the industry and that I am valued no matter how big or small the impact.
I really miss being woken up by the music to get the day started, engaging with the lovely speakers who are industry greats in their own right. I loved learning from everyone too. I had never been a part of a programme like this before and I’m glad I could be a part of it.

I was and still am a singer and songwriter. I’ve been singing since I was eight and writing music since I was 12. I’ve always loved singing since a young age – it just made sense to me ...

Wat het die Crescendo-projek vir jou musiekloopbaan beteken?

It has given me the ability to take my songs to the next level with all the help from the mentors.

It has given me the ability to take my songs to the next level with all the help from the mentors. I released my second single, “Vlam in my hart” through ATKV-Crescendo and my very first Afrikaans EP called Gereed in 2024. I’ve also shot my “Hy lig my op” music video through ATKV-Crescendo and also collaborated with Jason B, Anna Davel and my husband on the songs on my EP. That was really special. It has always allowed me to think about music differently and treat it with love and care and bring some of my own flavour to it.
