Press release: Five Kanna nominations for Fugard's Statements after an arrest

The compelling new production of Athol Fugard's classic play Statements after an arrest under the Immorality Act has scooped no less than five Kanna Award nominations.

Presented by the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees, Eric Abraham and The Fugard Theatre as part of the KKNK's 25th anniversary celebrations, Statements after an arrest under the Immorality Act is directed by The Fugard Theatre's Artistic Director Greg Karvellas and stars Marlo Minnaar(7de LaanSanta GamkaSara Se GeheimBoland Moorde) as Errol Philander and Liezl de Kock(Piet se OptelgoedCrazy in LovePictures of You, African Gothic) as Frieda Joubert.

Statements after an arrest under the Immorality Act is writtenbyAthol Fugard. Set Design and Lighting Design is by Wolf Britz, Soundscape is by Charl-Johan Lingenfelder and Sound Design is by Charl-Johan Lingenfelder and David Classen.

The production has been nominated for five Kanna Awards in the following categories:

Beste Teateraanbieding (Best Production)
Beste Debuutwerk (Best Debut Production) 
Beste Teaterontwerp (Best Design) for Wolf Britz
Beste Akteur (Best Actor) for Marlo Minnaar
Beste Aktrise (Best Actress) for Liezl de Kock

Kunste Onbeperk, who produce the KKNK, also recently recognised Athol Fugard with its Lifetime Achievement Award for Theatre.

The production transfers to The Fugard Studio Theatre in Cape Town from 17 September.

The winners of the Kanna Awards will be announced on 15 April.

Statements after an arrest under the Immorality Act will be performed in The Fugard Studio Theatre from 17 September on Tuesday to Saturdays at 8pm with a Saturday matinee at 4pm.
