Gestremdheid in die kollig op die Kunstekaap-verhoog in Desember
Ons is verheug om Kunstekaap se Accessibility-fees, ter viering van persone met gestremdhede deur middel van kreatiewe uitdrukking, aan te kondig wat van 3–6 Desember plaasvind en sodoende die Internasionale dag vir persone met gestremdhede (IDPD) te herdenk.
Hierdie jaar se IDPD-tema, “Die bevordering van inklusiewe samelewings vir gestremdhede vir die bevordering van sosiale vooruitgang”, weerspieël Kunstekaap se verbintenis tot die skep van ’n ruimte wat ten volle toeganklik, verwelkomend en inklusief is vir kunstenaars met gestremdhede en alle besoekers.
3 Desember – Internasionale dag van persone met gestremdhede
Op hierdie belangrike dag wil ons besin oor hoe ver die samelewing gevorder het om die regte, sigbaarheid en insluiting van persone met gestremdhede in die hoofstroom te plaas. By Kunstekaap word 3 Desember gewy aan die viering van die stemme en artistieke uitnemendheid van kunstenaars met gestremdhede, wat ’n platform bied aan stories wat kragtig, uiteenlopend wat dikwels nog vertel moet word.
Die feesprogram op 3 Desember sluit in:
- Die Artscape Accessibility-konsert in die Teater om 17:00-18:00, met musiek, dans, teater en poësie deur kunstenaars met gestremdhede. Die aanbieder is die bekroonde TV-vervaardiger en provinsiale direkteur van DeafSA Wes-Kaap, Jabaar Mohamed, Nikita Scott (sanger in rolstoel), Jahier Samsodien (sanger in rolstoel), Charne Hugo (sanger in rolstoel) en Dumisa Maksoka (operasanger), PJ Durr (blinde kitaarspeler/sanger), St Joseph’s Spesiale Skoolkoor, Dominican Skool vir Dowe Kinders-dansgroep, Alta du Toit Skool- marimbaorkes, Dance for All, met rolstoel-balsaaldanse, ’n kort dokumentêre film Amigo the Griot deur Kurt Orderson met die blinde rapper Mario Laaistock as fokus, en ’n boeiende drama deur gesiggestremde kunstenaars Ezra Bali en Zipho. Die Artscape Accessibility-konsert is gratis, maar jy moet bespreek op Webtickets.
- Expressions in Motion Crafti Creations-jeugkunsuitstalling: 3 Desember 2025 tot 13 Januarie 2026 in die Marble Extension-portaal. Hierdie uitstalling, wat om 18:30 op 3 Desember open, met die tema “Beweging, groei en transformasie”, vertoon kunswerke deur kinders en jongmense van Wellington, tussen 6 en 18 jaar oud, wat ’n gesamentlike muurskildery insluit wat deur die leerders geskep is.
- REMO, die inspirerende eenmanopvoering deur breakdanser Rameez Cassiem, wat sy buitengewone reis van oorlewing, veerkragtigheid en hoop deel. In die Innovation Lounge om 19:30 – 20:30. R100 per kaartjie op Webtickets.
6 Desember – Fashionability (Alta du Toit-modeskou)
Sluit by ons aan vir ’n inklusiewe mode-ervaring wat gestremdheidstrots en kreatiewe uitdrukking vier.
Modelle van Alta du Toit en Innovation of the Blind sal die loopplank betree met kledingstukke wat ontwerp is deur Elizabeth Galloway Academy of Fashion en De Villiers Royal Couture.
Hierdie vertoning herinner ons daaraan dat skoonheid, selfvertroue en styl aan almal behoort – in elke liggaam en elke vermoë.
Kunstekaap is trots om ’n ruimte te skep waar kunstenaars en gehore bymekaarkom om diversiteit, kreatiwiteit en die krag van inklusiewe storievertelling te vier. Ons nooi jou uit om deel te wees van hierdie belangrike reis van sigbaarheid en verteenwoordiging.
Die Artscape Accessibility-fees word moontlik gemaak met die ruim ondersteuning van die Stad Kaapstad, die provinsiale departement van kultuursake en sport, en die nasionale departement van sport, kuns en kultuur.

Jabaar Mohamed
Jabaar Cassiem Mohamed is a proudly deaf South African leader, advocate, and media pioneer. Born in Elsies River, he became the first deaf graduate of both the University of the Western Cape and Cape College without South African Sign Language Interpreter .
He is the TV Producer and Presenter of Accessibility with Jabaar, South Africa’s first SASL talk show, promoting deaf identity, cultural inclusion, and accessible storytelling.
As Provincial Director of DeafSA Western Cape, Jabaar has led 17 years of advocacy, education, and community development, including launching the first Emergency Access App for the Deaf in Cape Town with Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.
Jabaar’s contributions to arts and culture were honoured with the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport Award (2025), alongside national recognition including the SAFTAs Golden Horn Award, the Survé Philanthropies Award, and being named one of Africa’s Top 25 Most Influential by Inuwell – Voice of Wellness Magazine
Nikita Scott
Nikita Ashleen Scott, born on 19 January 2002 and based in Atlantis, is an international title holder—MWI Phenomenal Miss International—and the CEO of Born to Shine – Just Me on Wheels.
At age 17, Nikita survived a major car accident on 2 February 2019 that left her wheelchair-bound with head and spinal injuries, and a diagnosis of Neurological Functional Disorder. After more than two years of depression and recovery, she rose with remarkable resilience.
Nikita entered Atlantis Got Talent, becoming the only disabled contestant among 49 participants and winning second place, and first among all singers. She later competed in Miss & Mr Atlantis, earning the title Miss Courageous of Atlantis.
Passionate about serving her community, she started a soup kitchen from her home and became an advocate for breaking stigma around disabilities. In 2022, she was crowned MWI Phenomenal Miss South Africa and later MWI Phenomenal Miss International—the only wheelchair user in the competition.
Despite financial barriers preventing her from traveling to perform in the USA and Thailand, Nikita continues to shine. She now runs a Home of Safety for children from newborn to 12 years old, using her journey to inspire hope, courage, and possibility.
Charné Hugo
Charné Hugo is an acclaimed South African singer best known as one half of the popular Afrikaans duo Die Lieflinge. Celebrated for her powerful voice and inspiring life story, she has become a beloved figure in the Afrikaans music industry. Despite early-life paralysis caused by a medical complication, Charné discovered her passion for singing at eight years old and built a career defined by resilience and heart.
She has performed in numerous productions with Artscape, the ArtsAbility Festival, and renowned cultural advocate Marlene le Roux, further cementing her place in South Africa’s performing arts community. Beyond her musical achievements, she is dedicated to disability advocacy and has contributed to philanthropic initiatives such as the Adaptive Sports Fund
Charne and Dumisa will do song together.
Dumisa Masoka
Dumisa Masoka is a South African tenor born and raised in Cape Town. He studied at the University of Cape Town under the guardians of Mr Sipho Fubesi. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Music Performance (Specialising in Opera).
He performed in various Opera production at Opera UCT and also in collaborate with Cape Town Opera. His notable roles includes : Spalanzani in Tales of Hoffman, Elmelik in Dalinda, Giuseppe in La Traviata, Bertrando in L'inganno Felice, and Peter Quint in Turn of the screw. This year in the beginning, he made his Debut as Don Ramiro in Rossini's La Cenerentola at North London's leading company, Hampstead Garden Opera (HGO), he recently appeared as Count Almaviva in the Cape Town Opera production of Il barbiere di siviglia.
He has been part of various chorus productions, including : Don Pasquale, I capuletti e I montechi, Alcina, La Traviata and AIDA. He had opportunity to participate in master classes led by renowned such as Levy Sekgapane and Sunnyboy Dladla.
PJ Durr
Visually impaired artist PJ Durr has been singing since a very young age and started playing guitar in his 1st grade and discovered rock music 6 years later.
He’s the frontman for the Afrikaans rock band TonnelVisie and also the Winner of 2025 Suidoosterfees-talentsoektog.
