Zalman Davis writes elsewhere on Facebook:
Rest easy, Simone Cilliers Jonker. I was shocked when I heard about your passing. This morning I asked how you were doing ... I never expected the response.
In 2019 you said: "Ek mis my ma se arms om my." I hope you are sitting on Ingrid’s lap, the two of you singing "Toemaar, die donker man".
Simone, we worked together for a few years, shared house, shared a lot of personal experiences/information, had poetry nights, compiled Waterfall of moss and sun, we fought, we made up, we laughed, we hugged goodbye and spoke every now and then.
My words are few. Go be happy, be free and without pain. And when you look down every now and then, utter the words of Gabriella’s Song:
All I want is to be happy being who I am
To be strong and to be free
To see day arise from night
I am here and my life is only mine
And the heaven I thought was there
I’ll discover it there somewhere.
