What’s happening at Kalk Bay Theatre in February

  • 0

Slide guitar, harmonica, African blues guitar stylings and soul vocals all feature in the fresh and vibrant sound of Robin Auld for his performances at Kalk Bay Theatre from 1 – 5 February. Well known to South Africans from his hits such as “Baby you been good”, “All of Woman”, “Love Kills” and many others, Robin’s music has evolved from the pop sound of his earlier recordings into a contemporary mix of blues and roots. He has performed and recorded in New York, London, Glasgow and Nashville, opening for and performing with acts such as Lloyd Cole, Angelique Kidjo, Michelle Shocked, Jackson Brown and Seasick Steve.

Kalk Bay Theatre's much-loved Tuesday night resident, TheatreSports, returns every Tuesday night with their high-octane non-stop, laugh-a-minute improvised antics. No two shows are ever the same so come and marvel at their quick-thinking wit and talent.

On Sundays in February 12, 19 & 26 at 19h30, Peter Gilchrist presents "The Divine Oscar", his acclaimed one-man tribute to Oscar Wilde. Gilchrist brings much of the humour and a little of the tragedy that was the life of this flawed genius, not only his works but his life and his loves. He plays seven different characters, bringing to life scenes from ‘The Importance of being Earnest’ and ‘An Ideal Husband’. Many of us remember the lovely moment when Earnest admits he was born in a handbag! The show stopper however is Gilchrist’s introduction to Lady Bracknell in all her majestic glory.

Presented by Follow Spot Productions, who enjoyed sell-out performances at Kalk Bay Theatre in 2011 with "Love at First Fight" and "Big Boys Don’t Dance", Absolucy is the divine comic songstress Lucy Tops who entertains with her range of toe-tapping hits while poignantly drawing on the lonely double life of an alcoholic cabaret artist. A huge hit at the National Arts Festival 2011, the show starts with her nervously arriving at what she thinks is her first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and she then takes us on a musical journey of her life and relationship with alcohol, highlighted with important friends and family along the way. Absolucy will be performed from 8 February until 3 March. PG 12.
