Its summertime and the living is easy down at the V&A Waterfront with the Scintillating Sounds of Summer free concerts at the V&A Amphitheatre between the 19th and 27th January.

Andrew James and The Steady Tiger are a duo whose songs can be described as lyrical storytelling. With incredible guitar playing and percussion, catchy tunes and lyrics with a message, visitors can expect a great evening’s music from this talented guitarist and drummer combination on Saturday 12 January. On Sunday 13 January there will be a double bill beginning with acoustic guitar virtuoso Tombstone Pete with his usual high energy guitar performance. He will be followed at 18h30 by folk-pop group Beatenberg who are making musical waves with their recently released debut album Farm Photos.

Acoustic rock group Plush take to the stage on Saturday, 19 January. The group has toured the world over the last ten years and their sharp live performance will include their popular radio hits as well songs from their recently released album simply entitled Plush. On Sunday 20 January gypsy jazz band Manouche will introduce a touch of nostalgia. Manouche believe that “if it ain’t got that swing, it don’t mean a thing” and blend beautiful melancholic melodies with foot-tapping jazz. The band consists of a vocalist, a violinist, an accordionist, a guitarist as well as a double bassist and drummer.

If electronic music with an African flavour grabs you, don’t miss TheCITY on Saturday 26 January. The duo consists of UCT School of Music graduates, vocalist Bonj Mpanaza and multi-instrumentalist Clement Carr. They will be joined by Ryan McArthur. At 18h45 they hand the stage over to the legendary Bed on Bricks. Their indefinable sound appeals to a broad spectrum of music fans from reggae to African funk hop, mixed with free flow and melodic vocals from Melanie Scholtz.

Ending the first month of the New Year will be the Lee Gold who will perform on Sunday 27 January. Lee performs regularly with her own Trio and Quartet at many jazz clubs and other venues in and around Cape Town. In 2008 she was chosen as a finalist in the FMR/PICK ‘N PAY travel award competition. In 2009, she travelled to OHIO, USA to attend a Jazz Vocal camp lead by the grammy-nominated vocal group “NEW YORK VOICES”.

Performances on all days start at 18h00 and run through to 19h00. These times are subject to change.
