The wanderers, what does it mean to belong?

What is home?

What does it mean to belong?

In his hard-hitting second novel, The wanderers, Mphuthumi Ntabeni explores his own ancestry, but he does so through the lens of fictional narrators, documents and memoirs.

He also addresses the Xhosa people’s Frontier War against the British, the struggle for democracy against the National Party and the sense of unease among veterans of the latter. “I have seen the returning MK soldiers, how disappointed they are in what is happening in our country,” says Mphuthumi.

This recording was made at the Etienne van Heerden Veldsoirée in Cradock.
