The Fugard Theatre Bioscope presents the Sleeping Beauty ballet film this weekend

The Fugard Theatre Bioscope, in association with The Royal Opera House, The Royal Ballet and the Bolshoi Ballet Companies continue their popular World Opera and Ballet season on Saturday and Sunday afternoons throughout the year.

This weekend the Bolshoi Ballet’s The Sleeping Beauty will be shown, starring David Hallberg in his highly anticipated debut as the first ever American Principal  dancer at the Bolshoi, partnering the Bolshoi’s ballerina Svetlana Zakharova as Princess Aurora. All films are presented in full high definition, with 5.1 digital dolby surround sound. Ballet productions that have been screened over the past weeks have included Swan Lake, Giselle, The Nutcracker and Don Quixote, featuring some of the biggest stars in the world.

The opulence of the newly renovated Bolshoi Theatre is in full bloom in The Sleeping Beauty. The treasured tale of nymphs, fairies, and storybook romance is the pinnacle of choreographer Marius Petipa’s career, and is regarded the ultimate classical ballet.

All the ballet and opera films in the line up are superb and for fans of these exquisite art forms, these films are not to be missed. Tickets cost R100.00 per person per screening and include a complimentary glass of bubbly on arrival. Screenings are at 16h00 unless otherwise stated, with bookings via Computicket and the Fugard Theatre Box Office 021 461 4554. Friends of the Fugard benefit from a generous ticket price discount. There is safe parking in the Harrington Street car park located at the corner of Caledon and Harrington streets and is available for the use of theatre patrons.

The 280-seater Fugard Theatre is located within the historic Sacks Futeran building in Cape Town’s District Six, with the renovated Congregational Church Hall in Caledon Street as its entrance.
