The Beatitudes

She looks in the mirror and doesn't recognise the stranger staring back at her
Face covered with makeup to cover another break up
Fingers down her throat to impress the guy who doesn't even take note
Society judged her, changed her, exchanged her and betrayed her
Traded her in for an impersonator
Now she feels like a failure

CHORUS:
Don't you know you're beautiful
Your heart can heal if you let it go
Sticks and stones can hurt so much
but I know words and names are just as harsh
Don't you worry it will be okay
I'll be with you every step of the way

Another drink, another smoke
He cut himself with the pieces of the hearts he broke
He's on his knees again
Face down in the dirt and stains on his shirt
He might be a man, but the pain still hurts
Abandoned 'cause they couldn't understand him
Shut his heart and won't let anyone in
