(This interview is in English; only the short introduction is in Afrikaans.)
Karen Surridge is the project manager, renewable energy and cleaner fossil fuels at the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI).
Freek Robinson queried her about SANEDI and asked her:
- How do we calculate the shortfall of our energy needs?
- Are we going to be able to end loadshedding one day?
- Why are electric cars not the solution to South Africa’s problems right now?
- Is “cleaner coal” not an oxymoron?
- Are we doing enough to bring renewable energy into our grid?
- How can the consumer contribute to change?
