Adapted from Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy-tale The Red Shoes
Directed by Leila Henriques

The story is about a girl forced to dance continually in her red shoes; The Red Shoes has seen adaptations in various media including film. Red Shoes is a tale at the heart of every addiction, compulsion and obsession. How we can be obsessed with one thing to the exclusion of all else, and how that can end up destroying us. In this play the Red Shoes is used as a starting point for a series of narratives that explore this theme in a contemporary context.

Leila Henriques is an award winning actress who grew up in Johannesburg. She trained at The Oxford School of Drama and spent two years working in various locations in London, including The Tabard Theatre which specialized in new writing. She has performed in both film and theatre. She, together with Irene Stephanou wrote the book “The World in an Orange – Exploring the work of Barney Simon”.
