The Romance Writers Organisation of South Africa's annual conference, is going virtual this year and promises to be bigger and more exciting than ever before.
ROSACon2020 kicks off on 20 October and is open to all levels of writers. Delegates can take part in pitch sessions with editors and agents, writing sprint sessions, breakaway sessions for networking, and presentations by guest speakers covering writing craft, business, publishing (traditional and self), and marketing.
There will also be a virtual cocktail hour after-party and an awards evening.
ROSA is a non-profit, volunteer-run professional association, founded in 2014.
“ROSA's purpose is to bring together both published and as-yet-unpublished authors of the world's most popular and most profitable literary genre. A large part of what we do is professional development: educating new writers and helping established writers grow their careers,” said ROSA founder and conference organiser Romy Sommer.
ROSACon2020 is offering four Ikhwezi Scholarships, to writers from disadvantaged communities.
The scholarships have been funded by some of the international guest speakers, including Nalini Singh, Julia Quinn and Marie Force, who have donated their fees towards this worthy initiative.
The Covid-19 pandemic turned 2020 into a virtual year and this year’s ROSACon can be enjoyed as mega virtual event from the comfort of one’s home – without the stress of having to make travel and accommodation bookings.
“The pandemic has given us a wonderful opportunity to invite international guest speakers our local writers would not usually have access to. Going online in 2020 has also made the conference more accessible to writers across the country. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from some of the biggest names in romance writing and shouldn't be missed!” enthused Sommer.
