Kat and the Kings has extended its run at the Fugard Theatre for the third and final time before heading to Johannesburg in September.

With its nightly standing ovations and sold-out houses, David Kramer and Taliep Petersen’s popular musical Kat & the Kings has extended its bookings for a third and final time to meet the ongoing demand for tickets.

The dynamic Olivier award-winning musical is currently running at the Fugard Theatre in District Six where it opened in May this year to great acclaim. Produced by Eric Abraham and directed by David Kramer, the two act show is set in District Six in the 1950’s and stars a multi-talented young cast, headed by veteran actor Danny Butler as Old Kat and newcomer Dean Balie as Young Kat Diamond.

Kat Diamond is convinced that he is the best singer and dancer in District Six and forms the a cappella group the Cavalla Kings with his friends Ballie (Carlo Daniels), Bingo (Grant Peres) and Magoo (Zak Toerien). With the help of Lucy (Amy Trout), their American doo wop and rock and roll influences makes the Cavalla Kings a sensation in the District. A dynamic live band, led by the talented musical director and saxophonist Don-veno Prins, accompanies the action every night.

Kat & the Kings is now booking until Sunday 2 September with performances Tuesdays to Fridays at 8pm and on Saturdays in July and August at 4pm and 8pm. There are two additional Sunday performances on 26 August and 2 September at 3pm. The performance on 2 September will be the final one in Cape Town before the production moves to Johannesburg to play at Pieter Toerien’s Theatre at Montecasino. Tickets range from R100 to R150 via the Fugard Theatre box office on 021 461 4554, Computicket.com and 0861 915 8000, with generous discounts available for the Friends of the Fugard when booking through the Fugard Box Office. Patrons who are not yet signed up members of the Friends of the Fugard program can do so by clicking onto www.thefugard.com or by calling the theatre’s box office. Advance booking is recommended.
