Celebration of Sindiwe Magona on the occasion of her 80th birthday
Amazwi South African Museum of Literature is pleased to announce a celebration of the life and work of Literary Legend Sindiwe Magona, on the occasion of her 80th birthday.
Two highlights of the programme are the launch of Amazwi’s new exhibition on the life and work of literary legend Sindiwe Magona, titled “Sindiwe Magona: A Conscience for the Nation,” and the launch of the Masifunde Sonke Reading Programme by the Puku Children’s Literature Foundation and Rhodes University.

“Sindiwe Magona: A Conscience for the Nation” explores Magona’s life and work through a carefully curated selection of her manuscript materials, a graphic installation and a digital exhibition. Highlights of the launch programme will be Dr Magona in conversation with celebrated human rights lawyer Barney Pityana and author and academic Siphiwo Mahala, and the transfer of Magona’s personal archive to the care of Amazwi.

The Masifunde Sonke extensive Reading Project will enable students to curate children's book collections in all languages and ensure a cohort of graduates with the writing and digital skills necessary for the 21st century classroom. The programme will be launched by Puku’s Executive Director, Elinor Sisulu, with a keynote address by Magona.
