PHFAT just released a brand-new music video for the song, Kill the Universe. In this interview with LitNet Mike from the band talks third-party powers, a new range of t-shirts, and that elusive debut album.
You've just released your second music video, Kill the Universe. What are the song and video about?
The song and video are about how when you’re doing something cool in your life, there are all sorts of third-party powers that come into play that seemingly make life easier, but actually those forces could just be there to destroy you. It's kind of like business.
When can we expect a new album?
Definitely before the end of the year! We have our working title and sketches – we are just putting it all together right now.

How difficult is it to fund/make a music video? How did you raise funds?
Funding videos is a nightmare – we paid for it with gig fees! Luckily Ifnotwhynot managed to pull some serious tricks out of the bag and make a really cool video with next to no money.
Tell us about your new range of t-shirts?
They are the best. All the designs were done in-house (by Disco and Brendan Sterley). We released shirts a while back, but we ended up hating them and we promised ourselves that we were only going to release clothes that we would wear ourselves from now on. So the shirts we are going to release soon will be those ones.
If you could suggest one other South African band/act to check out,
who would it be?
There are loads of dope acts, but if I was to recommend one local act at the moment it would definitely be Beach Party. I liked them so much that I asked if I could record and produce and mix their next album.
