Wêreld art auction, Kleinevalleij Estate, Wellington

Wêreld is a South African arts organisation, founded by Jaco van der Merwe in 2015, with a vision to build an infrastructure which develops, connects and showcases South African artists.
Nine years, more than 200 productions, worked with more than 300 artists in many artistic disciplines.
Our new project: building artist retreat spaces in South Africa, for the purpose of hosting and facilitating international and local artists (in many different disciplines) in artist residencies.

Artist residencies are dedicated periods of time in which artists devote themselves to creating new work, sometimes in collaboration, sometimes on their own. Artists also facilitate workshops with local communities, and do performances / exhibitions of their work as part of the residencies.
In support of this vision, Wêreld is hosting a series of art auctions, in partnership with Karen Zoid, to raise funds for the building of the first artist retreat space in the Piketberg mountains.
The Gauteng launch went amazingly well and sold 48 artworks at an exclusive in-person event.

Our next event is 6 September. It will be an online auction, as well as having an in-person launch event. The in-person event will be hosted by Karen Zoid and Jaco van der Merwe at the prestigious Kleinevalleij Estate, Wellington, Cape Winelands. More than 170 artworks by more than 70 artists, including Willem Boshoff, Pierneef, Lionel Smit, Maaike Bakker, Gordon Froud, Nina Torr, Johan Thom, Lien Botha and many more will be on display. Art viewing will take place from 16:00-18:00, and the auction will begin at 18:00.

The auction will also take place online, through the Old Johannesburg Warehouse app (OldJW Auctioneers in App Store). The catalogue can be browsed beforehand and bids can already be placed through the app:
