Finding Nirvana

Day in, day out, clock in, clock out
Through the red lights we speed along
how I wish we could all calm down

All of this striving, yet never arriving
Our next reward always one step ahead
round the corner, but never to be found

We're trying to find the stairway to heaven
by racing down the highway to hell
It's never too late to start all over
and stop pretending all is fine and well

Tick-tock, tick-tock, on the run, chased by the clock
Never a moment to just breathe it all in
Completely enslaved by the things we own

Where's the peace we still crave within?
We're loving things, yet not our fellow human beings
Seems we're harvesting, exactly what we've sown

We're trying to find the stairway to heaven
by racing down the highway to hell
It's time to turn this ship around
and stop pretending all is fine and well

Don’t you see?
We've succeeded in building a society
in which no one wants to be
