Detours tackles movement composition

  • 0

Detours dance festival, hosted by Wits School of Arts / Division of Dramatic Arts, will take place at the Wits Downstairs Theatre from 15-18 May.

Detours’ mission is to create a platform for young choreographers to present exciting, experimental material, whilst engaging with students and the broader industry as a whole. Entering its second year of existence, Detours is a festival that aims to tackle and investigate exciting avenues in movement composition. The program provides an exploration of a variety of forms that range from solo to ensemble to collaborative work in an attempt at inspiring a re-visioning of the body in performance.

Festival curators, movement practitioners and university lecturers Joni Barnard and Jane Crewe, are themselves innovative thinkers and creative performers in their own right. This year, the focus of Detours is on a streamlined festival that once again offers variety, innovation and strong creative voices.
