RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Teach Afrikaans literature and any of the following: Comparative Literature / Literary Theory / Dutch Literature at both undergraduate and postgraduate level;
  • Actively engage with research endeavours of the Department;
  • Supervise postgraduate students;
  • Make an active contribution to the Department’s research profile;
  • Carry out academic administration and other activities in the Department as determined by the HOD.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Master’s degree in Afrikaans Literature / Comparative Literature / Dutch Literature;
  • A research record appropriate to the post level.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Knowledge of Literary Theory;
  • Expertise in Afrikaans Poetry;
  • Excellent language and communication skills.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Teaching experience at tertiary level;
  • The ability to supervise and mentor postgraduate students;
  • Involvement in professional societies and research projects;
  • International contacts is a strong recommendation.

The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 375 879 to R 497 607 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.

PLIGTE:

Daar sal van die suksesvolle kandidaat sal verwag word om:

  • Afrikaanse Letterkunde en enige van die volgende: Vergelykende Letterkunde / Literatuurwetenskap / Nederlandse Letterkunde op beide voor- en nagraadse vlak aan te bied;
  • Aktief deel te neem aan die navorsingspogings van die Departement;
  • Studieleiding aan nagraadse studente te verskaf;
  • ‘n Aktiewe bydrae te lewer tot die Departement se navorsingsprofiel;
  • Akademiese administrasie en ander take soos deur die Departementshoof bepaal, uit te voer.

  • ’n Magistergraad in Afrikaanse Letterkunde / Vergelykende Letterkunde / Nederlandse Letterkunde;
  • ‘n Navorsingsrekord toepaslik tot die posvlak.

VEREISTE BEVOEGDHEDE (VAARDIGHEDE, KENNIS EN GEDRAGSEIENSKAPPE):

  • Kennis van Literatuurwetenskap;
  • Kundigheid in Afrikaanse Poësie;
  • Uitstekende taal- en kommunikasievaardighede.

BYKOMENDE AANBEVELINGS:

  • Onderrigervaring op tersiêre vlak;
  • Die vermoë om nagraadse studente te lei en mentor;
  • Betrokkenheid by vakverenigings en navorsingsprojekte;
  • Internasionale kontakte is ‘n sterk aanbeveling;

Volgens UP-beleid en -riglyne wissel die jaarlikse vergoedingspakket vir hierdie pos tussen ongeveer R 375 879 tot R 497 607. (Hierdie bedrae sluit die Universiteit se bydrae tot standaard UP-voordele in, naamlik voorsorgfonds en groeplewensversekering asook begrafnisdekking, maar sluit nie mediesefondsbydraes in nie aangesien dit per personeellid verskil.) UP onderskryf die BESTMED mediese skema en dra 50% van die toepaslike maandelikse paaiement by.
