Flautists and clarinettists from all nationalities aged 30 years or younger are invited to submit an entry before or on 14 September 2013.
Following the first stage, the Qualifying Round, 22 competitors will be invited to South Africa to compete in this prestigious event.
Three South African musicians, flautists Cobus du Toit and Myles Roberts as well as clarinettist Justin Carter have already qualified for the event during the recent First Unisa Southern African Wind Instrument Competition.
The competition consists of four rounds. Finalists will be required to perform a concerto with orchestra.
The organisers are offering successful applicants a return flight ticket, free accommodation with host parents and an accompanist for the duration of the competition.
The total prizes are worth more than R890 000.
The first Unisa International Piano Competition was presented in 1982. Several other instruments were represented since then and the competition complies with the stringent standards set by the World Federation of International Music Competitions.
