The An die Musik art song recital, presented by the Unisa Music Foundation, takes place once a year with the singers identified and introduced by Mimi Coertse, who is still paying service to music after she had her 80th birthday on 12 June this year.
Soprano Deirdre Blignaut-Rautenbach and tenor Sandile Mabaso are the artists for this year’s concert, scheduled for Sunday 1 July at 16:00 in the more intimate Miriam Makeba Concert Hall on the Unisa Muckleneuk Campus (behind the ZK Matthews Great Hall). It is ideally suitable for the performance of art songs.
The purpose of these concerts, sponsored by the Rupert Music Foundation, is to give promising South African singers the opportunity to perform in an art song recital.
The concerts always start with the famous Lied by Schubert, An die Musik, sungby eachperformer before his and her performance. The rest of the programme consists of seven songs from Zigeunermelodien (Dvo?ák), Sewe Boerneefliedjies (Pieter de Villiers), three Russian songs by Rachmaninov and the complete Dichterliebe for tenor by Robert Schumann.
Tickets are sold only at the door at R85 for adults and R65 for students and pensioners.
