After hearing mention of "Vat jou goed en trek Ferreira" on a facebook post – I wondered if the origin of Ferreira vis-a-vis Afrikaners as Ferreira is in fact a Portuguese name.
"Vat jou goed en trek Ferreira" means what ... or was there some other meaning to this song (as explained on LitNet)?
I guess he is contaminated by inferior Portuguese med/mulatto genes, as are the many thousands of Afrikaners with the common Afrikaans surname "Ferreira" (Portuguese influences – culture and language in South Africa).
Mev Annie Molony was die skryfster van “Vat jou goed en trek, Ferreira” circa: 1926 referring to an impending Sand Storm – I think ... or was it the dust that was drummed up from excessive dancing which left one or more people dead?
I (a soutie) was attacked – for infusing "race" into the discussion ... hmmm ... and called a "dom donner" and "Dikkop" ... or ... this person merely displaying decades of "guilt" ... using me as a convenient scapegoat ... hmmm ...
Some people just try to read too much into casual bantering on a (multicultural) South African forum ... sigh ...

Hi Owen
Dear Vanessa,
I am a local historian and tourguide in Pretoria. I have read about Any Mahlony and Ada van Aard and the Mr Ferreira that refused to leave the farm that was purchased by Mr Van Aardt.
I would love to hear more about Ida.
Hello Vanessa,
I have come across several versions of the story of the origin of the song and I would love to hear yours since it seems to originate nearest to the true source.
Thank you
Peter
My ouma se naam was Annie-Maloney Brand. Sy het ons vertel van haar oumagrootjie en van "Vat jou goed en trek Ferreira". As ek reg onthou was Annie Maloney van Ierse herkoms.
Ons weet dat Ignasius Ferreira deur Gouverneur van der Stel na Franschhoek gestuur is nadat hy skipbreuk gely het aan die Kaapse suidkus. Hierdie feit kon ook oorsprong hê in die liedjie?
Hello! Vanessa, I am interested in the story of the song Vat Jou Goed en Trek Ferreira as it is the second time I've come across a reference of it having been written by Annie Maloney or was her name spelt Moloney? My maiden name was Moloney and I am trying to discover anything I can about the Moloney family.
I forgot who was looking for this story - Annie Melony was my great grandmother's sister.
Hi Vennessa
Ons vermeem graag van jou oor die geskiedenis van 'Vat jou goed en trek'.
I have found a reference to the song in an 1880s edition of the Cape Mercury.
