Van Gogh

If you look at my self-portrait
With the brush always in your hand
It’s known that heavens forbid
I can’t design my own human brand

I’m a living breathing painting chameleon
Take your pick from the pantheon
Changing my colours as you please
Choose one of my personalities

One day the paint will wash away
And the brush returned to me
Then will it still be a Monet,
Or will the canvas be clean?

I’m a living breathing painting chameleon
Take your pick from the pantheon
Changing my colours as you please
Choose one of my personalities

It’s my turn to look at my painting
And change it as I please
For long enough I’ve been waiting
To destroy the other me

I’m a living breathing painting chameleon
Take your pick from the pantheon
Changing my colours as you please
Choose one of my personalities

Now I look at my self-portrait
With the brush safely in my hand
Now the heavens still forbid
And alone I stand

I’m a living breathing painting chameleon
Take your pick from the pantheon
Changing my colours as you please
Choose one of my personalities

There’s no more breath in this chameleon
And nobody’s home in the pantheon
No colours, so tell me please
Just who the real me is
