"The Pied Piper" by Werner Schelhase

The Pied Piper

In a little town, close to home
the people come together to moan and groan
How to get rid of the vermin pestering the town
get rid of them now and for all of time

Up steps a man with a colourful suit
“Vote for me and I will play my flute”
The vermin will all follow me
pretty soon your town will be free

The pied piper plays the flute, the rats all follow in hot pursuit

How long will you fake and let us all follow your line?
how long will it take till we get our piece of the sunshine?

The townspeople agreed and gave the man their vote
and dressed him up in authority's coat
He smiled as they took his hand
and left him with the key to their land

The pied piper plays the flute, the rats all follow in hot pursuit

Reality check, take a closer look
think the rich can't commit a crime?
Once again the banker slips off the hook
while another bread thief does the time

The pied piper plays the flute, the rats all follow in hot pursuit

Will you tolerate this and accept the tune
knowing that the piper will run out of rats so soon?
Who will he get to follow him this time?
Our children all trained to get in line

The pied piper plays the flute, the rats all follow in hot pursuit.
The pied piper plays the flute, the rats all follow for their share of the loot
