As the country prepares to beat the winter chill, Capetonians and people from all over SA opened up their hearts to add warmth to those less fortunate, in the National Twitter Blanket Drive South Africa, #TBDZA, held at the Hilton Cape Town City Centre Hotel on Saturday 26 May 2012.

Tweeters and TBDZA supporters braved the cold and joined the exciting drive that was held simultaneously across the country, donating one or more blankets to the two chosen Cape Town beneficiaries, Operation Shoebox and Next Step Africa. 1600 blankets were donated in Cape Town.

Marv van Niekerk, CEO of Next Step Africa said: "We are a newly formed NPO and we are so overwhelmed by the generosity of all". Operation Shoebox, the other charity who benefited from the generosity of Capetonians, was speechless and thankful towards the #TBDZA organizers and everyone who contributed.

The Cape Town #TBDZA representatives are passionate about healing the world one person at a time. The group, led by actor and celebrity magician Charles Tertian’s, has aptly dubbed themselves “Charlie’s Angels”. The Angels organized several build-up events during the month of May, including the Adidas Classics Party at Mercury Lounge which took place on 3 May; Hout Bay Manor Sunday Afternoon Tea and Cake on 6 May; the South African Network Alliance network event at 15 on Orange Pride of Africa Hotel which took place on 11 May and on 20 May at Cafe Manhattan people were invited to order a #TBDZA Burger Meal and for every meal purchased, owner Russell Shapiro donated a blanket to this worthy cause. The final event took place this past Saturday, 26 May at the Hilton Hotel.

Those supporting the #TBDZA event this weekend included Soli Philander, Mbulelo Grootboom, Anelisa Phewa, Lance Witten, Siv Ngesi, Allison Foat, Bhavna Singh, Egon Seconds and Irit Noble. The Hilton Hotel generously offered a wonderful space where everyone mingled with the chosen charities' representatives and enthusiastic Tweeters. While “tweeps” were networking and dropping off their blankets, they were entertained by the soulful sounds of The Goslett Project band managed by Elton Goslett, as well as local artists Anelisa Phewa and Keeno Lee. Laetitia Titus of Flash4ward Photography donated her services and beautifully captured the event (flash4ward79@gmail.com).
