Wondering what to do as part of your 67 minutes for Mandela Day?
In honour of Mandela Day on 18 July 2014, the Nelson Mandela Foundation has called for donations of books about Madiba and other struggle heroes to their local schools or libraries (http://www.nelsonmandela.org/news/entry/new-mandela-day-initiative-recognises-the-power-of-reading-and-education).
In response to the Foundation’s appeal, Tafelberg Publishers have partnered with Children’s NGO Tremendous Hearts to support this call. Tafelberg will donate copies of its new book Our Madiba: Stories and reflections from those who met Nelson Mandela, which Tremendous Hearts will distribute to various schools and libraries in South African schools and libraries in disadvantaged areas. Our Madiba is a collection of anecdotes from people who met Nelson Mandela - from ordinary South Africans - his former bodyguard, the child he met in hospital and the woman he shared his birthday - to leaders and celebrities and leaders like Richard Attenborough. Our Madiba was compiled by Melanie Verwoerd, who is also the Executive Director of Tremendous Hearts.
If you would like to donate a copy of Our Madiba as part of your donation to Mandela Day, please send an e-mail to madibastories@gmail.com for further information. The book retails at R195.00.
