
- All entries must reach LitNet by 30 September 2013. Any lyrics received after 30 September will not be entered into the competition.
- Only persons 18 years and older may enter the competition.
- Lyrics may be submitted in any of South Africa’s official languages. If you use languages other than Afrikaans or English, translations/explanations of the words/phrases must accompany your lyrics.
- Only electronic entries submitted through the Sing 'it entry application on Facebook and/or LitNet will be accepted.
- Lyrics may not contain cursing, hate speech, blasphemy or slander.
- Entries must be original. Adaptations of any material published previously/elsewhere, or that has been performed commercially in any form, will not be accepted.
- By entering in the Sing ‘it competition, you certify that all lyrics entered are your own original and unaided work. It has not been copied, plagiarised, or stolen from another source in any way. You certify that you’re not aware of anybody else using these words for purposes of a song or any other form of writing, nor are you aware of anywhere else, other than the LitNet website, that these words have been published. You indemnify LitNet and any artist using the words of the lyrics you entered for the Sing ‘it competition from any law suit or damages arising from the words you have entered for the Sing ‘it competition.
- Lyrics submitted for last year’s competition, but not chosen as winning lyrics, may be entered again.
- Although all possible precautions will be taken, LitNet accepts no liability for the loss of any texts. Entrants should keep copies of their texts and check that their entries do appear on LitNet. (Please allow at least one working week for proofreading and publication.)
- All entries will be published on LitNet. Entrants retain copyright of their lyrics, but LitNet has the right to use entries on various platforms – including other publications – to promote the competition.
- LitNet will indicate entrants’ copyright, but will not be liable if entrants’ lyrics are used for compositions outside of the competition.
- LitNet accepts no responsibility in the event that lyrics submitted for the competition and/or published on LitNet are plagiarised.
- The publication of any lyrics on LitNet implies an acceptance of the LitNet website’s general Terms and Conditions.
- Only the artists/bands themselves will choose which lyrics they wish to compose music for. Neither LitNet nor Sanlam will have any say in their decisions. However, if the total number of entries is unmanageable, pre-selection by professional judges may take place.
- LitNet’s choice of winners is final and non-negotiable.
- If one of the nominated bands chooses your lyrics to compose music for, a prize of R5 000 (per song lyric) will be awarded to you. If more than one of the nominated artists/bands choose your lyrics you will be paid per composition.
- If a band chooses your lyric, you will forfeit all profit rights to the song. However, you will be acknowledged as the lyricist and retain copyright for any further/new musical compositions of the lyrics.
- Bands will have the right to adapt lyrics to some extent to suit their specific style. The adaptation of lyrics is subject to LitNet’s approval.
- The four artists have access to all lyrics entered – including lyrics written for specific artists – and may choose any of the lyrics, including those written specifically for other artists. However, lyrics written for specific artists will be passed on to them as such. Your artist preference will not be published on LitNet.
- Only the winners will be notified personally.
- Contestants who are identified as winners give permission for LitNet to publish photos of them, as well as interviews and/or video footage. Winners also agree to provide the above-mentioned photos, as well as to make themselves available for said (video) interviews.
- If your song lyric is chosen as a winner, LitNet will mediate all interactions with the media. You must be available for interviews and/or comments.
- All correspondence between songwriters and artists will be conducted by LitNet.
- If the song containing your lyrics wins the budget for the music video you will have the opportunity to appear in the video if you would like to do so (at Sing ’it’s expense if you reside within the borders of South Africa). Your appearance in the video is optional, not obligatory.

- Alle inskrywings moet LitNet teen 30 September 2013 bereik. Enige lirieke wat na 30 September ontvang word, sal nie tot die kompetisie toegelaat word nie.
- Slegs persone 18 jaar en ouer mag aan die kompetisie deelneem.
- Lirieke mag in enige van die amptelike tale van Suid-Afrika voorgelê word. Daar is geen beperking op taalvermenging of die gebruik van ander tale nie, maar indien ’n taal anders as Afrikaans of Engels ingesluit word, moet vertalings/verklarings vir die betrokke woorde die lirieke vergesel.
- Slegs elektroniese inskrywings op die Sing ’it Facebook-blad of LitNet word aanvaar.
- Lirieke mag nie vloekwoorde, laster, haatspraak of godslastering bevat nie.
- Inskrywings moet oorspronklike werk wees, en nie verwerkings van enige materiaal wat voorheen gepubliseer is, of wat reeds in enige vorm kommersieel opgevoer is nie.
- Deur jou lirieke vir die Sing ‘it-kompetisie in te skryf bevestig jy dat alle lirieke wat ingestuur word jou eie oorspronklike werk en intellektuele eiendom is. Jy erken dat dit nie enigsins van enige bron geplagieer is nie. Deur om vir die kompetisie in te skryf sertifiseer jy ook dat jy geen kennis dra dat hierdie woorde – vir enige doeleindes – op ‘n ander plek gebruik of gepubliseer is nie. Jou inkskrywing vrywaar LitNet en enige kunstenaar betrokke by Sing ‘it wat jou woorde vir die Sing ‘it-kompetisie gebruik van enige regstappe of skade wat uit die gebruik van die woorde wat jy vir Sing ‘it ingeskryf het mag ontstaan.
- Lirieke wat vir verlede jaar se kompetisie ingeskryf en nie as wenlirieke aangewys is nie, sal weer aanvaar word.
- Hoewel alle moontlike voorsorg getref word, aanvaar LitNet geen aanspreeklikheid vir die verlies van enige lirieke nie. Kandidate moet afskrifte van hulle tekste hou en kontroleer dat dit wel op LitNet verskyn (laat asseblief minstens een werksweek toe vir proeflees- en publikasietyd).
- Alle inskrywings word op LitNet gepubliseer. Deelnemers behou die kopiereg van hulle publikasies, maar LitNet het die reg om dit op verskillende platforms – insluitend ander publikasies – ter bemarking van die kompetisie te gebruik.
- LitNet sal die liriekskrywer se kopiereg aandui, maar aanvaar geen verantwoordelikheid indien die lirieke buite die omvang van hierdie kompetisie getoonset sou word nie.
- LitNet aanvaar geen verantwoordelikheid indien enige lirieke wat vir die kompetisie ingeskryf is en/of deur LitNet gepubliseer is, geplagieer word nie.
- Die publikasie van enige lirieke op LitNet behels ’n aanvaarding van die LitNet-webtuiste se algemene Bepalings en Voorwaardes.
- Die kunstenaars kies self die lirieke wat hulle wil toonset en LitNet of Sanlam het geen direkte inspraak hierin nie. Indien die aantal inskrywings onhanteerbaar is, mag voorafkeuring deur professionele beoordelaars wel plaasvind.
- Die aanwysing van wenners deur LitNet is finaal en nie onderhandelbaar nie.
- Indien een van die genomineerde kunstenaars jou lirieke vir die kompetisie toonset, word ’n prysgeld van R5 000 (per liriek) aan jou betaal. Indien meer as een genomineerde kunstenaar vir die kompetisie ’n liriek van jou toonset, sal jy vir elke toonsetting vergoed word.
- Indien ’n kunstenaar jou lirieke kies, verbeur jy alle winsregte op die uiteindelike snit. Jy sal wel as die liriekskrywer erken word en behou kopiereg vir alle verdere/nuwe toonsettings.
- Kunstenaars het die reg om lirieke in ’n mate, in oorleg met LitNet, te wysig ten einde dit by hulle spesifieke styl aan te pas.
- Die vier kunstenaars het toegang tot al die lirieke en kan enige stel kies, ook een van dié wat spesifiek vir ’n ander kunstenaar geskryf is. Lirieke wat vir ’n spesifieke kunstenaar geskryf word, sal wel as sodanig aan hulle deurgegee word. Hierdie voorkeure word nie op LitNet gemeld nie.
- Slegs wenners sal persoonlik in kennis gestel word.
- Deelnemers wat as wenners aangewys word, gee toestemming dat LitNet foto’s van hulle en/of onderhoude met hulle en/of video-beeldmateriaal van hulle mag plaas. Wenners stem ook in om bogenoemde foto’s te verskaf en om hulself beskikbaar te stel vir bogenoemde (video-) onderhoude.
- Indien jou liriek as ’n wenliriek gekies word, sal LitNet optree as tussenganger met die media en moet jy sover moontlik beskikbaar wees vir onderhoude of kommentaar.
- Alle korrespondensie tussen liriekskrywers en kunstenaars sal deur LitNet behartig word.
- Indien jou toonsetting die musiekvideobegroting wen, sal jy die geleentheid gebied word om in die video te verskyn (op Sing 'it se onkoste indien jy binne die grense van Suid-Afrika woon). Jou teenwoordigheid in die musiekvideo is vrywillig en nie ’n verpligting nie.
