Riding for a fall (The Ballad of Jimmy Stone)
CHORUS:
Oh, is it any wonder?
When I ride my steed of steel
I can hear the sound of thunder
In the freedom that I feel
In the freedom that I feel
In the spinning of the wheel
I can hear the sound of thunder
In the freedom that I feel
Jimmy Stone had worked for months
saving all he could
Bought his boney, supe’d it up
like any Angel would
Skull and crossbones on his back
he would show them all
But easy rider Jimmy Stone
was riding for a fall
Studded jacket, iron cross
chain and faded jeans
Got a thousand cc welcome
from the gang on their death machines
A pretty girl, called Sandy Blake
her heart nearly skipped a beat
when Jimmy stopped beside her
and offered her a seat
CHORUS
She sat behind her Jimmy
as proud as he was tall
But what she didn’t know was
he was riding for a fall
A hundred bikes took off that day
or maybe there were more
Through a cloud of burning rubber smoke
You could hear the Devil roar
Jimmy Stone took up the lead
before they’d gone a mile
He was gonna show them
‘cause Jimmy Stone had style
The needle reached the limit
but still he wouldn’t slack
The engine seemed to scream the words
“There aint no going back”’
CHORUS
Sandy tried to stop him.
It did no good at all
‘Cause Jimmy Stone was hell bent
on riding for a fall
She glanced into the mirror
and then she caught her breath
There, leering back at her she saw
a grinning skull of death
You’ve heard about that kind of fear
that turns men into stone.
Well, Sandy knew that moment
when she saw they weren’t alone
Jimmy’s lust for power
had driven him insane
He never saw the crossing
he never heard the train
CHORUS
No time to swerve or veer away
Nor even hit the brake
So Jimmy Stone became stone dead
and so did Sandy Blake
The moral of the story is
the same for one and all
Don’t take a ride with anyone
who’s riding for a fall
CHORUS
