Rehearsed prayers
The man sat under his tree
eyes closed and hands stretched out, he wanted to be
free from the world, freed from his life, so every day
at noon he would take this position under his tree
and there he would pray for:
CHORUS
the hunger of the world
the cry of his Africa
the corruption he must witness
the barefoot street child
the loveless life people lead,
until he went into a trance and
wept for eternity.
The man under the tree
he never knew why it was his purpose
and he never complained or missed a day
he just prayed:
CHORUS
the hunger of the world
the cry of his Africa
the corruption he must witness
the barefoot street child
the loveless life people lead,
until he went into a trance and
wept for eternity.
BRIDGE:
But today was different.
he just sat down, closed his eyes
and smiled
and then I saw the peace he found,
because this was the day of his judgment
and he was prepared.
CHORUS:
the hunger of the world
the cry of his Africa
the corruption he must witness
the barefoot street child
the loveless life people lead,
until he went into a trance and
wept for eternity.
