“Red shoes” by G Johnson

Red shoes

You left in the morning
Your scent left a moment
I called out your name
And I waited for summer

You sent me a flower
The colour of winter
The castles you built
All went to the water

I see that you've  found a career in the media
You never complained when I gave you advice
So summer has gone now
And spring time is sleeping
The band plays the tune that I whistled for you dear

Chorus:
Shine like a sparkling dancer, your red shoes have broken your stride

Your number has changed
And your photographs are stained now
You're  greeting your fans like a confident preacher
I sit here alone and I wait for that email
But nothing appears when you are the stranger

I see that you're winning some special prizes
I am glad that you're something, you worked it all well dear
You always wanted to be
Bigger and prouder than the song that I gave you
I'll keep all your posters for another ten years

I sit in a corner with you on my screen
The coffee cups empty and the cat is asleep
You stand there alone now
Your stage has no curtain
I'll see you one day
When the coast is clear
