"Red Light" by Archie Smith

Red Light

There was a red light
on the corner of the street
Made me turn in another direction
She was standing, in the doorway
red lips and legs up to heaven
And I thought, for a while
That smile was mine

She’d had a hard life
No time to chat now, she was looking for the man of the moment
No one said yes, it is easy, ripped top and the weather was breezy
And I thought, for a while
Those eyes were mine

There is no time
Like the present to find a way
to change something small for another
She was hurting, always looking soul-ragged
and her smile was frozen
And I thought for a while
The time was now

So when you’re walking
take a good look; see the truth
behind smiles that come easy
There is no one, wants to live that
no one here who has that as a daydream
Just to think, for a while
That life was yours
