"Polaroid" by Daniella Deysel

Polariod

I take pictures of you when you leave
I collect them in times of need
To remind me
How it would’ve been
if I’d given in

I write letters to you when you grieve
I leave them smelling with a hint of me
To fool you into thinking that
You’re the best part of me

I pretend to smile
Every once in a while
To make you believe
That you have me

Your exits are the best part of my day
Sending you off believing everything’s okay
I wouldn’t have it any other way
If I really were to love you
It would lead to my heart’s decay
Every time I feel like letting you in
I take out a Polaroid and see
That your exits are the best part of me

The thought of your return leaves me restless
Constant fighting to keep you at a distance
If I finally decide to give in
These pictures would certainly fade
Your entrances would be the best part of my day
Making your exits the reason for my decay

So I pretend to smile
Every once in a while
To make you believe
You’re the best part of me
I wouldn’t have it any other way
Your exits are the best part of my day

I take pictures of you when you leave …
