Plastic storage bags

CHORUS:
It used to be free
We used to be free
They just gave it away
and now we must pay

Back in my day, my mother would say
go to your friends, ‘cause you're free to play
But now my poor son, he can’t have much fun
he’s imprisoned by the criminal with the gun

Every night before I sleep, I’d say a prayer of thanks
but with the ugly I’ve seen, I can’t help but wonder if they weren’t only blanks
We wish and we pray for our world to move yonder
but we fight and we kill, and we hope for boy wonder

Like plastic storage bags we used to be free
replaced with a different kind and now come at a fee
But just like the plastic we will not disintegrate
we will stay, fight and break through the gate

Be the change, bring the change or at least just see the change
because with vision and hope, we can break the chains
South Africa, your sun so bright, but your people are losing the fight
Let us see, let us breed, let us be what our fathers intended – free

Together we must stand, not as colour but as blood,
South Africa is our country, our mother, not just a dud
Stand together and let’s form a unity, let us be one
And let this hate, this pain, this ugly, forever be gone
