Namib Desert
Angling in the surf
on the Skeleton Coast –
where old vessels ran aground.
Next to a shipwreck,
obscured by fog and haze,
a brown hyena
scavenges on a carcass.
Waves of dunes continue into the desert
– death traps in the shifting sands.
Here, compass bearings start to waver
and directions become unclear.
Any journey is a fatal odyssey.
These are the badlands of human endurance.
