"Midnight Train" by Catherine Shaw

Midnight Train

CHORUS:
She took a midnight train
to try and get away
From everything around her
closing in

She passed a field of daisies
bright yellow daisies
but did not see them
shrouded by the night
She looked at the seat beside her
empty as the world around her
She shed a tear
as realization hit

The world was not a storybook
There were murderers and there were crooks
Sometimes life didn’t feel worthwhile

The storybooks she used to read
when she was five, maybe three
were a lie
You never had a prince charming
to save you from your situation
Just wolves dressed up as lambs

Who will hurt you
and lie to you
and make you think they’ll be nice to you
But then they’re not

CHORUS

She sat there until the morning light
It warmed her face
and broke her darkest night
She took a breath and everything seemed easier

She stood up and took a step
Raised her chin and looked less upset
The sun that shone on her childhood
was back again

CHORUS
