Looking for motivation

Up before the light to make the best of our lives
9 to 5, it’s a grind but ya gotta survive
But in the back of our minds to the fact we are wise
In time you can’t look back, ‘cause everybody dies
But nobody will analyze
The lesson ain’t a blessing, it’s a question of time
not a question of when, or a question of why
Not a question of how much you spent on ya ride
It’s a question of how you’re spending ya life
Are you just living or are you alive?

So I analyze society’s lies
Through word an’ rhyme, I wreck my mind
To find the truth through blinded eyes
‘Till I wonder if it’s worth my time
An’ what I found was, I wasn’t exactly proud
of the time I lost on procrastination’s grounds
‘Cause I could be rocking this in front of massive crowds
Standing on a stage, turning the mic around
Having them screaming my name so loud
But here I am lazing on my couch …

Then I flick to channel three an’ see a documentary
‘Bout a guy that spent his life in a penitentiary
They said he killed his wife with a pen intentionally
Though he finally saw light at the age of seventy
See, they quietly set him free
‘Cause the killer came clean
in a note that he wrote, before he sliced vertically
So now that man owns a boat an’ his new wife’s twenty three
While the state foots the bill, an’ he lives happily

So if a victim of circumstance can advance when given the chance
even a glance at the past an’ the time they’ve lost
could be enough to motivate you to get off your ass
and grab all those chances you thought had passed
See, I got so many rhymes that my database is enormous
That If I was a dinosaur I’d be a thesaurus
Though I’m running outta space, so I think I gotta bore this
Outta my brain or maybe make a recording
‘Cause my brain’s congested like a Hilbrow clinic
An’ I’m in two minds like a schizophrenic
Should I keep writing these rhymes or do I just quit it?
Am I wasting my time an’ to afraid to admit it?
But I’m a man on a mission with a dream and ambition
A scheme and a vision, to succeed inhabitation
An’ wishing isn’t just stupid superstition
It’s the beginning of what the bigger picture’s bringing

So I guess I could end it off with something real cheesy
Like” Believing is the first step to achieving”
But c’mon, that’s easy an’ I know you wouldn’t believe me
‘Cause as long as I’m this lazy, I ain’t cutting a CD
