Like a missing sock

Young black boy with a ghetto dream
nothing works so he smokes some green
hangs out on the corner so he can be seen
momma wondering where he’s been
she’s always arguing but he can’t come clean
his pop’s a drunk maybe it’s in his genes
rapper’s video wishes he was on the scene
but hold your head little homey one day you will win

N o one knows the feeling of a missing sock
when you feel lost life is such a hard knock
time will tell but you’re staring at a silent clock
life's a knock-out punch when you’re too weak to block

So you express yourself grabbing a pen and paper
writing about pops who’s a cleaner and momma a waiter
maybe someone will read this paper sooner or later
and they'll see you can be a writer or something greater
but for now something’s holding you back like it’s all about Satan
you think about all the wrong girls you’re dating
praying for blessings from above but how long you’ll be waiting
but questioning God feels like the biggest rule you’re breaking

No one knows the feeling of a missing sock
when you feel lost life is such a hard knock
time will tell but you’re staring at a silent clock
life's a knock-out punch when you’re too weak to block

So tired but can’t sleep so he switches on the light
something’s on his mind so he got up that night
cold world made him sick to his soul so he starts to write
painting a picture of what is just black and white
pops was never there to show him how to fly a kite
mum’s too busy working to show him what's wrong and right
starting to believe in himself he wants to win the fight
forget about his circumstances because his dream’s in sight

No one knows the feeling of a missing sock
when you feel lost life is such a hard knock
time will tell but you’re staring at a silent clock
life's a knock-out punch when you’re too weak to block

When opportunity knocks he will open the door
finally the treasure’s right in front of him on the floor
but no ending there he’s got to settle the score
he’s got the talent to win that's what he’s there for
finally got up no need for lying down any more
don't waste your time and talent don't break the law
something great in him somebody finally saw
the sky’s the limit when your dream you don't ignore

He experienced the feeling of a missing sock
he felt lost in life when life was a hard knock
time did tell even though it was a silent clock
life's a knock-out punch but in time he managed to block
