Following the successful release of the film, Black Butterflies last year, there has been renewed interest in the poetry and life of Ingrid Jonker. To celebrate the work of this unique poet, we have invited Antjie Krog, Ingrid de Kok, and Prof Louise Viljoen to present an evening of poetry readings and discussion at Kalk Bay Books.
Antjie Krog will read selected poems in Afrikaans, and Ingrid de Kok in English, while Professor Louise Viljoen will provide a biographical context for the work.
The programme will last approximately one hour, with some time available for questions from the floor.
A selection of works by and about Ingrid Jonker, as well as titles from the presenters, will be available for purchase on the evening.
An entry fee of R20 per person will be charged at the door. Should you purchase a book at the event, the entry fee will be refunded.
There will be unreserved seating for 40 people on a first-come, first-seated basis on the night. Thereafter, standing room only for a further 40 people will be available.
