These three dynamic, beautiful, talented, friendly and charming young ladies have made a big impact on the South African music scene with their energetic live performances, singing, dancing and guitar-playing. Since the release of the trio’s critically acclaimed debut album, Strong, these ladies have become a national hit.
BlackByrd is signed with EMI Music and has earned four SAMA nominations: Best Adult Contemporary, Best Duo or Group, Best Producer, and the one with which they walked away … Best Engineer (the very talented Mark Beling).

BlackByrd made waves throughout South Africa when their first chart-topping single off the album All For Me was aired extensively during Women’s Month of August last year, and again during the Sixteen Days of Activism Campaign against the Abuse of Women and Children during November/December.
Their second hit single, “I Feel Good Today”, reached the number 1 position on both Highveld’s/Kfm’s Kia Take 40 SA Charts and Jacaranda’s Kia Top 20 Charts, and has the honour of being the theme song of the SABC3 morning television show Expresso. The third single, “From the Bottom of My Heart”, which features Craig Hinds from Watershed, has already received extensive air play across the country and has started climbing Highveld/Kfm, Jacaranda and Algoa fm’s radio charts. With more hits to follow … the sky is the limit!

The BlackByrds are musically innovative, with their interesting combination of pop, country and ballads, as recorded on their excellent album Strong, which comprises all their own original music, written by lead singer Tarryn Lamb (except for one track, the classic “Reason to Believe”). However, when they do functions, concerts and corporate events, etc, the versatile ladies perform an amazing cross-section of a wide variety of musical genres to cover all tastes. Included are medleys of hits from the early sixties and other popular eras, covers of the latest crowd-pleasing hit songs, as well as plenty of material inviting audience participation.
Just recently, Tarryn and Tamsyn have said goodbye to fellow band member and good friend Samantha Heldsinger, who decided to part company with the band, as she is engaged to be married! Tarryn and Tamsyn are delighted to welcome an excellent replacement in someone they have known personally and professionally for several years, and who has also made a great name for herself in the South African music industry. Her name is Axene – also a young, beautiful blonde bombshell with a bubbly, outgoing personality, who happens to be the youngest SAMA award winner ever, at just sixteen (for Best English Pop Album). Axene excels at singing, dancing and playing multiple musical instruments, and is also a highly competent songwriter, already with a number of big hits to her name.
Tarryn and Tamsyn are extremely excited to have Axene join them, and look forward to her wonderful talents growing the band musically. The face of BlackByrd may have changed, but with Axene’s strong all-round contribution, BlackByrd’s music continues to go from strength to strength.
