"Gone, but home" by Chere Guevara

Gone, but home

A mother lays her child to rest
clutches him close to her chest
She knows his heart, his skin, his bones
He's gone, but he's home

A sister says her last goodbye
Forces back the urge to cry
Turns her heart into a tomb
He's gone, but he's home

A friend turns slowly his face
Searching for a sign of grace
Where he finds his faith atoned
he's gone, but he's home

A stranger sees the stone engraved
And knows the hurt, his heart enslaved
His pain is his but not on his own
They may be gone, but they're home

They walk away hand in hand
In ways the whole world understands
When it seems the sun had never shone
They're all gone, they're go’in home
