Freedom

I walk the streets of Kayamandi and realise that freedom is in our unconscious minds.
I think freedom is trying to tell us something – that having freedom is not really for the smart
It is actually for the domkoppe who think they’re free
And for that give thanks to Mandela right – wrong
Give thanks to your stupidity
Give thanks to that blind folder you use to try and avoid that
I am free and ek is ook dom
Give thanks to that womb that filled you with promises of being born into a free and dom country
And please please give thanks to that light you saw when you were born and you thought freedom here I come
But I’m afraid to tell you that light you saw was from the dom shacks of Kayamandi burning down

While you’re on that I thought I should hit the roads of Soweto and guess what I found –
I found out that walking in the so cold Mandela Street was a threat because I would find the black kwela kwela boys waiting for me in the corner
I knew no questionnaire was to be answered.
Handbag in front and questions later.
I asked only for the mirror inside and I took the courage to realise that I was also black
So maybe I could have taken the Steve Biko street and only then can I awake our unconscious minds and we can finally be called the free smart country.
