"Fool's Gold" by Jean du Rand

Fool's Gold

I spent my days in the sun
always thought of what I might be
Then my mind would start to run
and take the breath right out of me

Don't leave your heart exposed, they say
The risk of getting hurt is far to great

There ain't no rules
when you're playing a fool’s game
I watched as you passed me by
all filled up with a child's desires

I took some time out from you
to see if the walls in my mind would grow
So I took my days to the sea
and found my hope in the water
In the One who made the water

Don't leave your heart exposed, they say
The risk of getting hurt is far to great

Would you say I was honourable when I took the stand?
‘Cause in the end we're all vulnerable
Aren't we, love?
