see, there’s sensibly no C in Greek,
and no K in the Holy See whose iconolatry
by breakaway Byzantines was bellicosely
bristled over
(as the airbrush had yet to be invented)
though their own Apostles, disciples, saints
and guardians were copiously palletised.
but those same ol’, same ol’ subjects jaded
the artists of less pious predilections,
who thus turned their heads and hands
to more illustrious subjects:
politicos, movie stars and soup cans –
yea, verily, even a soup brand
with the appellation of a Scottish clan
has ascended to latter-day iconography.
ergo, with the devolution of postmodernism –
reductionism, deconstructionism, even nihilism
now stake their claims in the cataclysm of angels,
with all credulity strained by a jovial colon.
