Don't cry

Verse 1

It was a Friday night so I went to a party
People were blazing and sipping Bacardi
I remembered your face and what you had said
You asked me not to drink so I drank Red Bull instead
Their minds were clouded but mine was clear
Because of Tequila and a lot of beer
I had nothing to hide, I felt good inside
I was filled with nothing but enormous pride
The party had ended, it was time to go
That’s when people’s ignorance started to show
They got into their cars without even thinking
They were gonna drive even though they’d been drinking
I got into my car, thinking to myself twice
“How’s something so bad and yet so nice?”
I closed the car’s door and I turned the key
Thanking God above that that wasn’t me

Chorus

Please don’t cry, it’s my time to depart
Remember that you’ll always have a piece of my heart
I have one question before I say goodbye
I didn’t drink and drive, so why must I die?
(Repeat a 2nd time)

Verse 2

My car started and I was so proud
‘Cause I stuck to what I’d vowed
I pulled out of the driveway and into the road
The driver didn’t see me and hit me like a load
They pulled me out with the jaws of life
I felt like I was being stabbed with a knife
As I lay on the sidewalk I heard a cop say
“The other guy was drunk” … Now I’ll have to pay?
I’m lying here broken, looking up at the moon
I need you here, I hope you get here soon
All I hear now is the siren’s tune
My life’s just burst like a balloon
I turn my head and all I see
Is a lot of my blood surrounding me
There’s no way I’ll ever be fine
‘Cause the medic said that I will die in a short time

Chorus

Please don’t cry, it’s my time to depart
Remember that you’ll always have a piece of my heart
I have one question before I say goodbye
I didn’t drink and drive, so why must I die?
(Repeat a 2nd time)

Verse 3

I should tell you, I didn’t drink
I was responsible, he didn’t think
I did the right thing, now I’m lying here
On the ground, in pain and filled with fear
Why do people drive wasted, it ruins lives
If there’s an accident, who knows who’ll survive
Even if you don’t drink, you’re not protected
Where drink’s involved, everyone’s affected
The guy was at the same party as I
He drank and drove but I’m the one who’ll die
Nothing’s wrong with him, it isn’t fair
I’m lying here dying and all he does is stare
I can’t change what happened, I’ve had my last run
Death’s winning this race, my life’s almost done
Right now, my heartbeat’s decreasing
Slowly but surely my life is ceasing

Chorus

Please don’t cry, it’s my time to depart
Remember that you’ll always have a piece of my heart
I have one question before I say goodbye
I didn’t drink and drive, so why must I die?
(Repeat a 2nd time)

Verse 4

When I thought I couldn’t love you took away my fears
You crept up close and wiped away my tears
I want to say that after all that we’ve been through
You are my best friend and I truly love you

But ...

Verse 5

I can’t stand up and face the world again
I’m smiling gently just to hide this pain
The pain’s getting to me, it’s taking its toll
Bringing me back to reality, so dark and cold
I am alive but my body is broken
Through this pain, reality’s been awoken
I want to enter into heavenly bliss
So goodbye tomorrow, I can’t live like this

(Repeat a 2nd time)
