Die tong is 'n mes,
Die tong is skerp,
Die tong kan jou in die ewige vuur werp.
Die tong is 'n sweep,
Die tong slaan seer,
Die tong kan homself nie keer.
Die tong is sterk,
Die tong dra krag,
Die tong kan die onmoontlike vermag.

The tongue is more powerful than the Niagara falls,
It dislodges a tree,
Roots and all.
The tongue is mightier than Mount Everest,
It brings out in people,
Their worst or best.
The tongue is faster than a speeding car,
It leaves deep wounds,
Or heals deep scars.
The tongue is sharper than a butcher's knife,
It brings world peace,
Or creates friction and strife.
