Close the curtain

Chorus Part 1

Close the curtain
And kill the lights
This show is over
Of that I’m certain

What a terrible ending, what a sad finale
But it’s no surprise – you loved in lies

Chorus Part 2

Draw the shutters
and lock the door
leave the wilted roses
on the stage’s floor

No cries for an encore
No calls for more
This show is done
It had barely begun

Verse 1

My feet know the way to your front door
They’ve seen every inch of your bedroom floor
My hands know the landscape of your face
But my eyes leave me lost and out of place
Memory’s staple diet is love
Or at least the chemicals we mistake it for
I’ve prepared for winter, but my heart is empty
This famine has to be fed, and it feeds on envy

Bridge

Just one more script, please, just one more line
And if our improv act ends well …
Can we do it again some time?

Verse 2

I’ve acted this plot a thousand times
And so have you
No wonder we easily spew the lines
We co-wrote this drama, it’s not déjà vu
But if I’m the author and my hand holds the pen
Why did I use it as a dart,
aiming straight for my own heart?
