"Change" by Johann Joubert

If we wait for the world to change,
We will wait until the wind wails through the hollows of our eyes,
As we fixate on the sunset,
Wishing on a whisper of a hopeless dream,
Wishing is a slow and painful death,
Wishing is allegiance to fear,
Wishing is the courage that a man should have,
Diluted to the point of insignificance,
The only step that matters is the first,
The rest will follow, if courage does not fail us,
But the first is most important,
For it sets us on a course,
It puts us into motion,
And who knows where the wind may blow our sails,
But if I am to die, it will not be here,
Drowning in this quicksand place of fear.
