Canvasses
We all try to figure out our lives
and sift and shift
Upscale downsize
our dreams just to survive
We do what we must do today
Waiting for that lucky break
But we all have our canvasses to paint
We do our best to block the rest
Hoping we're still in the race
Then waste our time in compromise
Sighing "hey" it was just in case
We grab the batons with our hearts
but there is traffic in the lane
Too afraid we may get maimed
and we all have our canvasses to paint
We battle our minds
We settle our hearts
We're silently quaint
The picture goes faint
We all have our canvasses to paint
And mama says what you need to do
is get a job and a girl, drop the dancing crew
And your sister thinks
you don't have a clue
If the shoe fits wear it
that's the truth
And you didn't win, though you did your best
No accomplishments
No independence
Still your colours still won't taint
‘cause its the only thing that make you try
All over and over again
Yellow, tell me where I need to go
Brush stroke, I may be going broke
Red, am I in over my head?
Blue, today I'm feeling like you
Purple, I'm so frustrated
Black and white, I'm in a grey area
And it's getting scarier
But green, today, you'll show me the way
And that sun, orange
that used to look strange
is starting to make sense
all over again
And we all have our canvasses to paint
