Sharon Mogoaneng

My name is Sharon Mogoaneng, I am 29 years old. I was born in a small village in Limpopo, but mostly raised in Benoni in Gauteng. I have four siblings: three brothers and a sister; I am the eldest. I discovered my love for books when I was six years old staying with my grandparents at the small village of Mare in Limpopo. I picked a book from an old bookcase – it was Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

I couldn’t read much then, but it had pictures in it that fascinated me – especially the characters’ style of clothing was something I had never seen before. Even the man himself with his long weirdly styled hair. It was the beginning. As I eventually learned how to read, my love for reading inspired my love for writing, or rather Shakespeare did that. I wondered how a man who died so many years ago could inspire so many writers, filmmakers and actors all over the world with the written word.

Recently I just finished a contract interning at a high school in my neighbourhood as an administrator. I have a Certificate in Business Administration Services from PC Training and Business College and Diploma (N6) in Management Assistant from TVET College in Germiston. I have currently registered some of my school subjects in order to study Bachelor of Arts in creative writing if possible, once I am done with the mentorship, but I hope with the knowledge and teachings from my mentor I wouldn’t really have to. I can use what he taught me to just simply write and hopefully get published.
